Jennifer scrambling to resume translation practice in HK

Hong Kong- Jennifer, a 20 something Chinese mainland girl,  made an official announcement  that she will be back to translation and interpreting when she recovers from a today's dental removal surgery. Hopefully she will not get very much bruised when scrambling with local competitors in securing a translation position .

Jennifer used to be devoted to translation/interpreting practice during her undergraduate study in a science-dominated university. It took her enormous courage and  determination to give up this trade and embrace journalism. Now, after so many years, when Jennifer met Anita, a Hong Kong-based ex  freelancing interpreter and incumbent government official, Jenny saw the sparkle re-ignited.

Translation and interpreting have played an essential role in Jennifer's early life. Via the bilingual skills Jennifer has met twice the amount of friends than people who are only Chinese-literate. Jennifer is proud that she was once a translator/interpreter. She believes by translating and interpreting she helped bridge the gaps between different cultures.

"My teeth still hurt," said Jennifer, "but I will carry on with my goal, let the price be.I always believe in translation. It gives me a sense of being alive. This I believe. "

TX for pizza delivery. LOL. Yes, Pizza Hut in YVR. But many other smaller independents or small chains. Some specialize in organic ingredients or whole wheat flour dough or gluten-free wheat. YVR very much a pizza-of-choice kinda place and some make it consumer practice to avoid big chains and shop local. Also emphasis on low trans-fat or no trans fat in recipes due to research link of trans fat and health/medical events. Rather a taste of pizza paradize on every block in YVR. Glad to hear you seek financial independence and able to secure employment in a global recession. Perhaps some work too with 2010 Expo? Also, cannot wait to hear the behind-the-scenes internship with the magazine. Yes between the covers very busy. Big Smiles

Dear Jennifer, thank-you for answering my ignorance. Wasn't sure pumpkins grew in China. Thought they might be native to North America. Also am totally unaware of medicinal qualities of pumpkin. In Canada we usually make pies out of the 'dead' flesh. Rather gruesome we bake the dead flesh in a pie crust and then add cow's cream whipped to a frenzy. Anyhoo...roasted pumpkin seeds are also a popular snack treat at this time of the harvest year. Also, totally unaware Hallowe'en celebrated in China. Yes, agree, trip to Disneyland would be quite spooky. Too spooky funny. This is Disneyland in Hong Kong?

Hope you recover from your dentistry.
I also hope all goes well and you secure a position in translating/interpretation.
Does this mean I can send items for translation to your space in stead of using Google Language Tools. hahaha!
    Take Care!

writing can be a good adjunct to the tranlation business. very good opprotunity to record the profiles of people and their interactions...makes for some good sideline obsevsations and writing....no J reporting.

The best with the tooth fairy.

All wishes for speedy healing of teeth so you can speak twice as quickly in both languages. Am grateful for interpreter provided when I did visit Taiwan. She worked quite hard to check and recheck nuance and different multiple meanings of words. Very demanding cognitive work I expect. Take care. Heal well. Hope this is not too much of a disruption of studies.
